There’s the saying, ‘Education is the new buffalo,’ because historically the buffalo gave us food, clothing, and shelter…we need to look to education to give us those things.

The Ultimate Native American College Planning Tool for Students, Schools, & Communities
CollegeBound Journey fills the gaps in Native American college planning. Our platform was designed with a cultural mindset by a licensed school counselor who understands the unique, cultural needs of American Indian students. Therefore, students obtain college information and resources that align to their cultural identity and needs, like discovering culturally supportive colleges, scholarships based on Native status, and pre-college programs for American Indian youth.
CollegeBound Journey was created to be used by students, schools, families, college access partners, tribal higher education programs, and others within the circle of support for Native American students. This unique platform provides a tool of equity and culturally responsiveness in the realm of college planning.
Specific Native American College Planning Strategies are Key
to Increasing Student College-Going Rates and Success.
The Need
- First, only 24% of Native American students enroll with a post-secondary institution.
- Second, of that number, only 41% graduate college within six years. Also, only 14.5% of the American Indian and Alaska Native population earned a bachelor’s degree or higher .
- Further, 90% of Native American students require financial aid to attend college.
- Lastly, 79% of Native American students identify as first-generation.
Our Platform's Solution
- Match students to culturally-supportive colleges, thus increasing retention.
- Identify scholarship opportunities to therefore support students to attend college.
- Prepare students for college through pre-college and enrichment experiences, especially ones that highlight culture.

Our college search focuses on Native American cultural factors and considerations in the college selection process. Once these factors are considered, students can identify culturally-supportive colleges.

Our scholarship database provides a comprehensive listing of scholarships available to students identifying as Native American. Thus, students can find avenues to finance their education.

Our enrichment program database highlights pre-college and other enrichment opportunities for Native American students to explore. These programs can therefore support students towards college.
