School Counselors and Culturally Responsive College Counseling
Providing Equity and Access as School Counselors
School counselors are essential to student matriculation. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics’ The Condition of Education Report 2020, Native American students are enrolling in college at rates far below their peers. Popular college tools used by school systems exclude important cultural aspects in the college search process. Culture is an essential factor for Native students on their college planning journey.
CollegeBound Journey guides Native American students and their support system to discover culturally-supportive colleges and resources. Using tools like this can provide school counselors with an equitable resource to support Native American students in the college planning process.
